We are looking to recruit to the Virtual Health Visiting Hub which provides a centralised, single point of access for families, professionals, and partner agencies across Birmingham Forward Steps. The post‑holder plays a key role in delivering safe, effective, and timely responses to enquiries, ensuring that all contacts are appropriately triaged, managed, escalated, and documented in accordance with Trust policies, safeguarding requirements, and national guidance.

We are looking to Recruit a Band Children's/paediatric  nurse who will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role supports the coordination, communication, and smooth operational flow of Hub activity, including call handling, email management, risk assessment, clinical triage, and onward referral. The post‑holder will work collaboratively with Health Visitors, administrative colleagues, Early Help partners, safeguarding teams, and wider clinical services to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.

The job requires excellent communication skills, sound clinical judgement, strong understanding of safeguarding principles, and a commitment to high‑quality record keeping. The post‑holder must be able to prioritise competing demands, recognise risk, and contribute to maintaining a safe, child‑centred service environment.

The role contributes to Trust priorities including the Healthy Child Programme, early intervention, integrated working, digital transformation, and improving family experience. All staff are expected to uphold BCHC values, participate in supervision and training, and support continuous service improvement across the 0-19 service.

  • To undertake virtual activities from the BFS Virtual Health Visiting Hub (SPA) Hub process  map either identified in the Band 5 pathway or Work will be received via telephone, email     and virtually with no physical face to face contact with children and families.  To ensure  prompt escalation of concerns as required.  2. Contribute to the BFS early help offer supporting families to access additional support as  required in line with the early help framework.   3. Contribute to the safeguarding of children at risk in line with appropriate Safeguarding  policies and procedures.  4. Participate in and promote the childhood immunisation programs as appropriate.  5. Participate in the BCHC Children & Families Nursing Forum and any other Trust related  learning opportunities.  6. Work within the NMC code of professional conduct.   7. Support Health Visiting Teams in the management of children with additional medical  needs, by completion of Educational & Health care plans to support transition to education.   8. Support and deliver evidence based care for children in line with the BFS Hub Standard  Operational Procedure and adhere to clinical pathways such as the premature care baby  pathway and children identified as having Special Educational Needs.   9. Liaison with other Multi Disciplinary Teams’ to ensure effective communication across the  teams to support the HV oversight and co-ordination of care.    10. To keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patients records for children and  families in line with NMC requirements and the Trust’s Record Keeping policies and  guidelines.    11. To convey information, of a complex nature, to other professionals and to clients with well  developed oral communication skills.  This will include negotiating, showing empathy and  reassurance, to have the ability to gain co-operation of others when needed and overcome  barriers to understanding.   12. Undertake clinical audits as directed by Health Visitor/Health Visitor Team Leader,  supporting actions plans according to findings.   13. Interpret difficult / challenging situations on the telephone/virtually, take prompt action and  have the ability to diffuse potentially aggressive or threatening situations.  Report any  incidence that gives rise to concern as per the Hub emergency process.   2  14. Work with and support families that may call in through difficult family situations such as  illness and bereavement. Utilise wider Multi agencies partners to signpost families to  additional support.  15. To plan, organise and run as required attend anywhere (virtual) clinics to support the health  and developmental needs of children as required.  This may include virtual  Infant feeding,  safety etc  16. Ensure data is inputted onto a data collection system accurately and on time as required by  the Trust.  17. To deliver care virtually by telephone, email and attend anywhere to support delivery of  care to children and families.  18. To ensure effective working relationships and communicate with the BFS Hub clinical and  admin staff, wider district teams and other professionals. To assure that we work as one  extended team integrated to support the health needs of children and families within the  service.  19. To maintain and continually update professional knowledge and skills.  Attend mandatory  training and relevant updates training sessions as required by the Trust.   20. To co-operate and assist in research and survey programmes relating to the client group.   21. To participate in the teaching/training and assessment of support staff within the service,  and in the clinical placement of all learners e.g. pre-registration.   Management and Leadership Responsibilities    1. To comply with Birmingham Forward Steps policies, procedures and guidelines and with  relevant statutory and/or Department of Health directives   2. To attend and participate in staff meetings,  Nursing Forum, and other meetings as directed.   3. To supervise, organise and monitor appropriate staff, as necessary, to ensure effective  service delivery.
