Job summary
The role of the Therapy Support Worker is to support the delivery of Rehabilitation to service users within the Critical Care unit.
The Therapy Support Worker will work under the supervision of Registered Therapists and will be responsible for an agreed specific caseload. The role will support a range of therapy professions, covering predominately Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the Critical Care Service across Heartlands and Good Hope Sites.
The trust is committed to providing a 7 day service and therefore the role is on a 7 day working rota.
Main duties of the job
* Have an awareness of the importance of early therapy intervention to improve patient outcomes and quality of life post Critical illness
* Delivery of Rehabilitation programmes either independently or alongside Registered staff which can include manual Rehabilitation.
* Complete clinical and non-clinical assessments to measure Baseline functional ability, Cognitive function, Mobility and transfers to support service users in developing personalised Rehab goals alongside registered staff.
* Be accountable of ensuring all mandatory and role specific training is completed
* Ensure all interventions delivered are Comprehensively documented in line with Trust Standards
* To facilitate or support group activities with specific objectives as required, e.g. social
orientation and inclusion, relaxation, energy conservation, dementia management, shopping
or cooking skills.
* Actively engage in Supervisions, Appraisals and service development
* Act in a professional manner and abide by UHB Trust Policies and Procedures and uphold Trust Values- Kind, Connect, Bold

Experience
Essential
- * Comprehensive experience supporting therapists in a relevant clinical setting
- * Comprehensive experience of delivering acute inpatient rehabilitation programmes across a variety of clinical settings with evidence of MDT collaboration and hospital discharge
- planning
- * Can demonstrate an in depth understanding of relevant areas of therapy, the effect of illness/clinical conditions / disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation
- * Comprehensive experience as a therapy support worker
- * Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare
Desirable
- * Experience of communicating with and motivating patients who may have communication difficulties
- * Experience of working in Acute Hospital Setting
- * Good understanding of working environment healthcare/NHS/UHB trust/acute care/community as applicable
Qualifications
Essential
- * Education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and maths at grade C or above
- * Able to demonstrate competence in maths and written and spoken English
- * Educated to A Level / NVQ 4/ BTEC or equivalent (e.g. NVQ 3 or similar vocational qualification PLUS substantive experience working in a care setting)
- * Care certificate or be willing to work towards this
Desirable
- * Evidence of recent education / personal development related to Healthcare.
- * Demonstrated has been proactive with continuing professional development
