Band 4 Senior Therapy Assistant - Neurosciences

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Senior Therapy Assistant to join the Neurosciences team within Therapy Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The post is 18.75 hours -- shift patterns can be discussed.

The successful post holder will support the acute rehabilitation and discharge planning of patients across the inpatient wards, working alongside a team of registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The successful candidate will work closely with other Therapy Assistants to ensure there are appropriate and skilled management of patients physical and cognitive needs, as outlined by the registered therapists on the ward.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical knowledge and skills to support patients to optimise their independence while in hospital and on discharge. The ideal candidate should have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and should be able to demonstrate initiative in managing their own caseload.

The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this post, as well as to be able to work to an assigned caseload independently.

Main duties of the job

To provide skilled support to the therapy Neurosciences team and assist registered therapy staff to provide an effective and efficient patience centred service.

The post holder will have a prescribed caseload and will work within agreed treatment plans, protocols and policies without direct supervision.

You will be supported to manage an appropriate caseload independently, within the scope of your practice, and to communicate your clinical reasoning, observations, and patient progress clearly to a registered therapist.

There will be a strong focus on rehabilitating patients with neurological conditions and diagnoses to enable safe and timely discharge from hospital or to the next appropriate setting.
