We are seeking a motivated and organised pharmacy technician with strong problem solving skills to join the pharmacy department at Queen Victoria Hospital.

Developing our staff is important to us and we already have funding secured for the postholder to complete Accuracy Checking Technician course if they do not already hold it.

The post holder has a central role within the pharmacy department by ensuring the safe and efficient supply of medicines to patients. The post holder will support the clinical pharmacists with the inpatient medicines optimisations service on wards, as well as supporting dispensary services. They will help provide cover for the Senior Pharmacy Technician in their absence.

Currently there is no weekend, Bank holiday or assigned late night working but this could be subject to change in the future.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities: In this role, you will be responsible for dispensing medications for in-patients and out-patients, managing stock control, and preparing discharge prescriptions and counselling patients on their medication.

The role is both ward and dispensary based and you assist the Clinical Pharmacists on the ward with medicines reconciliations including:

• Reviewing charts to ensure that medicine supplies are “topped” up as appropriate for use in hospital and on discharge without the check of a pharmacist.
• Checking patients own medicines brought into hospital on admission against the patients drug chart, according to patients own drugs guidelines
• Undertaking drug history and medication reconciliation early in the admission process, making referrals as appropriate to a pharmacist.

You will also be responsible for the provision of the emergency drug boxes within the trust.

Additionally you will provide training and supervision to other support staff and contribute to the smooth running of the pharmacy dispensary. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient supply of medications, enhancing patient care, and supporting the pharmacy team.
