Applicants must already hold the legal right to work in the UK at the time of application, as the organisation is unable to support sponsorship for this post.  By working in partnership with the ECT Team you will be part of a highly motivated team to continue to deliver an excellent service to patients and carers. You will provide clinical support to the ECT Team, working closely with all team members, sharing skills and information, viewing the clinic as one part of the continuum of care and facilitating opportunities for patients to benefit from, whilst maintaining and improving standards of practice in ECT. Based at the ECT clinic at Green Lane hospital but you will also work with the Team in theatres in the Acute Trusts providing a service to those patients with very complex physical health needs. The team is the most peripatetic service in England and a busy one with 39+ referring consultant psychiatrists.  A flexible working approach is required. The role is interesting with many different dynamics but challenging.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CLINICAL

• Demonstrate and hold knowledge of physiological monitoring practices which encompasses:
• Suitable preparation of the environment.
• Understanding of NEWS, and vital signs monitoring.
• The impact of a person’s physical health on their mental well being.
• Basic life support techniques.
• Form positive working relationships across all areas of the service and demonstrate empathy with patients and carers.
• An advocate for those patients receiving ECT and ECT treatment in general.
• Form professional relationships with patients and communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy & culture.
• To monitor & record progression, highlight concerns and report any perceived changes in patients wellbeing to the team.
• To demonstrate effective communication skills in discussing highly sensitive and complex information appropriately with people whose understanding may be temporarily or permanently impaired.
• Communicate fluently and persuasively across a variety of different media. Show listening and sensing skills.
• Manage patient care to ensure high professional standards.
• Work closely with Consultants, ODP’s and many other health care professionals in the organisation of patient care.
• Use reflective practice to continually develop and improve skills.
• Record and input information that will help maintain effective systems for producing information and statistics to produce reports.
• Work alongside other members of the team in the acute Trusts. (Pool car provided so own car use not required except in exceptional circumstances.)
• Co-operate with policies and protocol in line with clinical governance, especially in relation to service accreditation.
• Comply with the Professional Code of Conduct for Unregistered Practitioners, relevant legislation, procedures and policies.
• Undertake regular review of performance (appraisal) with the line manager to agree personal and service goals.
• Assist in ensuring that ECT treatment is available, and that obstacles (such as broken machines, unavailability of specific specialist equipment) are immediately reported so that patient care and treatment is not compromised.
• Promote and champion the rights, values, responsibilities and diversity of people.
• Working autonomously within relevant practice boundaries, under indirect, but not ‘direct’, supervision of registered clinicians.
