Are you looking for a new exciting career within the NHS? Are you patient focussed and want to deliver high quality dental care? We are seeking enthusiastic, hard working dental nurses to join the Floor 2 Restorative Dental Nursing Team.

Working days will be mixed and discussed during interview.

Working flexibly within the dental team to provide high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH)  and/or additional external sites such as Community Dental Services (CDS) if required.

Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the  Dental Services.

  • To provide chair side assistance to clinicians within the dental service.
  • To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.

To prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post operative instructions as required.

To undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs as required.

To ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.

To provide chair side assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic sessions as required.

To provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician

To assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.

To support and assist Clinicians including all staff and Undergraduate  disciplines.

To support and supervise all Apprentice Dental Nurses and Undergraduates.

Person specification

Education

Essential

  • Dental Nursing Qualification
  • Professional Registration with General Dental Council

Desirable

  • Post Qualification in Concious Sedation
  • Other Dental Nursing post qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience working as part of a dental team, e.g. General Practice, Hospital, other Primary Dental Services / Community Dental Services experiencing chair side duties

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • To interact professionally with individuals
  • Understand the principles of confidentiality
  • Up to date knowledge in all areas of dental nursing
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
  • Organisational skills
  • Good general numeracy
  • Good working knowledge of cross infection procedures
  • Computer Skills
  • Knowledge of dental procedures
