
To work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist- Heart valve nurse, as part of the multidisciplinary Cardiology team. The post holder will be responsible for clinically assessing patients, planning and delivering care and treatment. This will include the patients on a Structural and TAVI pathway. The post holder will manage the patient pathway from the point of referral through admission or transfer to Royal Papworth Hospital. They will ensure patients are assessed daily, referred for medical opinion if necessary and progress through their pathway in a timely way. They will liaise with medical colleagues to ensure effective nurse led discharge.
Act as a role model, both in clinical expertise and clinical leadership.
Use advanced clinical assessment skills in addition to nursing / practitioner skills to ensure patients are safely prepared for procedures, reviewed daily and treatment plans are followed in a timely way. This will include contributing to differential diagnosis and holistic assessment prior to a decision to pursue a treatment pathway.
Working with medical and managerial colleagues, actively contribute to the prioritisation of the Cath Lab list
Request and or carry out appropriate investigation, interventions and treatment as required.
Gain consent for patients undergoing elective cardiology procedures within Royal Papworth Hospital and NMC / HCPC guidelines.
Liaise with multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are ready for discharge or referred appropriately and in a timely manner for on-going care if required.
Assist new and junior staff in gaining competencies and confidence with clinical decision making.
With the ward teams, be responsive to the changing physical, psychological and emotional needs of the patient.
Take responsibility for own decision making recognising limitations and following Royal Papworth Hospital and NMC / HCPC guidelines referring to medical colleagues where necessary.
