Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable educator to join the DentalSenior Management Team within The South West as the Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for Dental Care Professionals (DCP)Workforce Development. The role is 1PAs per week.

The post holder will have experience of, and commitment to, postgraduate dental education and the delivery of high quality educational and training. The role will have a specific focus on the development of upskilling opportunities for Dental Care Professionals across the South West. The post holder must hold current registration with the GDC as a Dentist.

Whilst focusing on dental education and training across the South West with clear leadership from the Postgraduate Dental Dean, the post holder must also support the strategic vision for the long-term recruitment and retention of a dental workforce. The post holder will be able to work on national reform and develop effective strategies and operational policies for promoting innovation across the region with regards to Dentistry in line with the actions set out in the Advancing Dental Care Review Report.

The post holder will have demonstrable experience of leadership roles and the ability to be an advocate and positive role model, together with experience in programme management, educational support and quality processes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have responsibility for the development of upskilling opportunities for Dental Care Professionals across the South West and will be in a position to influence developments to meet future workforce needs.

Their main duties will involve;

  • To assist in the development and delivery of programmes and projects across the organisation that assist in the delivery of NHSE's mandate, including supporting the development of the multi-professional workforce.
  • To develop upskilling opportunities for dental care professionals
  • To support the use of clinical skills training and simulation stressing the importance of teamwork and human factors.
  • To work with providers and others to support and capture innovation locally and share best practice.
  • Representing the Directorate at both local and national meetings
  • To deputise for members of the local senior management team as required.
