Assistant Psychology - Maxillofacial Surgery

Job overview

Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments and screening using self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, families and others involved in their care. Support the formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological interventions, including psychoeducation, brief CBT and guided self-help, under the supervision of a qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.

Work within agreed competencies, recognise limitations and seek advice when required. Support the development, coordination and delivery of therapeutic and educational groups, and contribute to self-help resources, psychoeducational materials and self-management programmes. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support assessment, care planning and holistic client care. Assist in developing psychologically informed approaches to understanding and supporting clients across care settings.

Attend and contribute to relevant multidisciplinary meetings, sharing information and supporting effective communication. Safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults by adhering to Trust safeguarding policies, procedures and statutory requirements, and completing all relevant mandatory and statutory training.

Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with clients and professionals, and uphold confidentiality, dignity and respect in all aspects of care.

Main duties of the job

• To undertake protocol based psychological assessments / screening of clients applying self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients’ care. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems (psychoeducation, brief CBT and guided self help), under the supervision of a qualified clinical / counselling psychologist . This will include working within own level of competency, recognising own limitations and seeking advice when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• To assist in the development, coordination and running of therapeutic / education groups where appropriate To assist and lead on the development of resources for self-help materials for psychoeducational groups and self-management programmes. To complete joint working with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place. To attend and contribute to appropriate multidisciplinary meetings To act in such a way that at all times safeguards the health and well being of children and vulnerable adults. Familiarisation with and adherence to Trust Safeguarding policies is an essential requirement of all employees, as is participation in related mandatory/statutory training.
