An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Schools and Youth Justice Teams in Islington CAMHS. We offer multidisciplinary, community based CAMHS provision specifically designed to reduce barriers for families to accessing CAMHS. A key component of the work of both teams is close working with colleagues in partner agencies and it is an exciting opportunity to learn more about delivering evidence based CAMHS assessments and interventions in multi agency settings. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and committed psychology graduate who has relevant experience and interest in working with children, young people and families who have mental health or emotional wellbeing difficulties. This permanent post will be based across two Islington CAMHS services, the CAMHS in Schools Team and the CAMHS in Youth Justice Team . There will be also some opportunities to support the work of the MDT delivering CAMHS into the Pupil Referral Units.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the work of the teams. Supported by lead clinicians in each team, the post holder's responsibilities will include supporting staff with the collection and monitoring of routine outcome measures, collecting and analysing data for service reports and providing mentoring to undergraduate students on placement. The candidate will be an active member of the MDTs, supporting their work in the assessment and management of clinical caseloads. There will also be opportunities for direct clinical work including the possibility to join clinicians in their community settings, supporting them in assessing, planning, and providing care and treatment to individual children & young people and their families. There will be some opportunities for 1:1 assessments and interventions with parents and young people.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Under supervision and with support from the senior members of the MDTs:
Research and Service Development
- to support the collection, analysis, and reporting of outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
- to support the collection, analysis, and reporting of the Teams' activity data in order to contribute to the annual reports for schools and commissioners.
- to contribute to audits, service evaluations, and research projects to inform evidence-based practices within the service.
- to keep up to date with relevant research and developments in child and adolescent mental health and psychology
Leadership
- To provide weekly mentoring to an undergraduate placement student and co-facilitate a reflective practice group for undergraduate and post graduate students on placement in Islington CAMHS
Clinical work
- to join clinicians in the MDT's and assist in the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions, both individually and in group settings.
- to conduct structured assessments using psychometric tools, direct observations, and interviews with children, young people, their families and school staff.
- to deliver brief, structured interventions and assessments to support the work of the wider CAMHS teams.
- to conduct school observations
- to contribute to the formulation and implementation of care plans, ensuring they are evidence-based and patient-centred
- to record and maintain accurate clinical notes in accordance with NHS and professional guidelines
- to utilise clinical supervision and line management supervision effectively and appropriately
- to liaise with wider professional networks including school staff, children’s social care, education, charities etc.
- to constructively outcome clinical work, and support other clinicians in doing so, by scoring routine outcome measures, analysis and preparation of reports
- to join qualified clinicians in facilitating reflective practices
- to write clinically thorough notes, letters and reports to support the emotional, social, health wellbeing of children, young people and their families
- to attend and contribute to weekly/fortnightly MDT meetings, including supporting with actions and minutes.

- • Demonstrate an understanding of children and young people’s mental health and how it may present.

- • High level of communication skills (written and verbal).
- • Excellent typing and IT skills and high level of expertise using Microsoft programmes, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Ability to type own notes on the electronic patient records.
- • Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and mental health colleagues and multi-agency colleagues such as education staff.
- • Ability to form good working relationships and work flexibly and sensitively with others in multidisciplinary and multi-agency settings.
- • Quantitative and qualitative research skills and experience.
- • A high level of organisational skills, the ability to manage projects autonomously, the ability to be self-motivated and resilient.
- • The ability to seek and use advice, support and supervision from senior clinicians appropriately to ensure client safety and meet their needs.

- • An ability to apply psychological ways of thinking to a mental health, social and education context.
Education / Qualifications
Essential
- An upper second (or higher) honours degree in Psychology and eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS)
Desirable
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of mental health practice, psychology, and/or research design and analysis.
