An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, creative and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist who is passionate about supporting children and young people in a secure setting.

As an aspiring psychologist you will join our fantastic multi-disciplinary team at Millenium Lodge, Secure Children's Home, which will be the new site in 2027, for Lincolnshire Secure Children's Home currently rated Outstanding by both CQC and Ofsted. The service sits within our Children's and Young Person's Complex Care Service Line, alongside the Harmful Behaviour Service and Complex Needs Service. Our New Secure Children's Home will provide care for up to 28 young people aged 10-18.

Many of the young people we support have experienced significant adversity, including trauma, mental health challenges, neurodevelopmental difficulties and risk of harm to themselves or others. You’ll be part of a team that includes forensic and clinical psychologists, psychiatry, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, mental health and physical health nurses, resettlement practitioners.

You will work with a range of professionals to create a safe, containing environment and support intervention delivery that helps young people understand themselves, their mental health and their offending behaviour.You will be required to have an undergraduate / post graduate degree in psychology.

Main duties of the job

You will adhere to Health Trust and Local Authority standards and work in line with both HCPC and BPS professional standards while collaborating closely with health colleagues, Local Authority staff members and wider professionals involved in supporting children, young people and their families.

You could be involved in:

Carrying out various assessments and behavioural observations.

Contributing to multidisciplinary discussions about a young person’s diagnosis, intervention, risk assessment and care plan.

Finding out more about a young person’s background by reading notes, investigating histories and supporting formulation.

Carrying out interventions directly with young people.

Working with carers, relatives and other professionals involved in their care plan.

Researching, data collection and gathering information.

You’ll be supervised by a registered practitioner psychologist with overall clinical responsibility for the young people you work with. You will be provided with ongoing supervision to help you engage in self-reflection, seek and respond to feedback, and develop your professional knowledge and skills.

Information gathering to support the development of formulation, assessment and delivery of therapeutic interventions.

Attend relevant meetings for children and young people. Attend staff meetings where service provision and developments are discussed and planned.

Be familiar with LPFT Trust’s policies and implement policies as appropriate and relevant to your areas of work.

To engage with regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.

Responsible for assisting in the collation and provision of data needed for performance reports, audits etc. as guided by senior staff and doing this within the time limits set out by LPFT.

If appropriate to undertake research and development activities and provide research advice to others. As part of this undertake literature searches, questionnaire development, data collection, computerised statistical analysis and produce reports.

Assist Psychology and other relevant staff with administrative tasks associated with the provision of psychology input to service users e.g., preparation and production of reports and letters; photocopying; production of training packs and psycho educational resources.
