Job overview

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Psychologist to join the Barnet CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS). The post holder will support the assessment and care of children and young people referred for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessments.

Under supervision, you will assist in delivering timely, high-quality assessments by supporting developmental histories, administering and collating screening tools, organising clinical information, and contributing to report preparation and assessment clinics.

You will work closely within a multidisciplinary team to support care coordination and efficient service delivery.

Experience within a CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service is essential; however, transferable CAMHS experience will be considered. Prior training or experience in neurodevelopmental assessment will be prioritised.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the coordination and delivery of therapeutic groups and workshops
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary and multi-agency meetings, including liaison with schools
  • Assist in formulation and care planning discussions under supervision of qualified clinicians
  • Support psychological assessments using rating scales, structured observations and interviews with young people, families and professionals
  • Assist with neurodevelopmental and other specialist assessments
  • Deliver 1:1 manualised interventions under close supervision
  • Support psychometric assessments and scoring
  • Contribute to waiting list management, audits, service development and quality improvement work
  • Assist in developing and adapting clinical resources
  • Support wellbeing and welfare check calls for low-risk cases under supervision
  • Record post-assessment MDT discussions on RiO to ensure accurate and timely documentation
  • Shadow clinical staff during assessments and interventions
  • Support basic risk assessments, care planning and outcome measures (e.g. CGAS) under supervision

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support the delivery of psychological care within the Barnet CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service under supervision. Duties include assisting with therapeutic groups, attending MDT and multi-agency meetings, and contributing to formulation and care planning.

You will support psychological and neurodevelopmental assessments using rating scales, observations and interviews, and assist with psychometric assessments and scoring. The role includes delivering 1:1 manualised interventions under supervision and supporting waiting list management, audits, and service improvement work.

You will assist with developing clinical resources, undertake low-risk wellbeing calls, and support risk assessments, care plans and outcome measures. Accurate documentation of MDT outcomes on RiO and shadowing clinical staff are also key aspects of the role.
