We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant psychologist to join our thriving psychology service.
This full time post sits within our large department and will provide a clinical psychology role to our specialties team, with a focus on supporting our paediatric sickle cell service, alongside the wider specialties and general outpatients team.
St Georges Hospital is one of London’s largest children’s hospitals, with one of only four paediatric trauma units in London. It also hosts the only paediatric intensive care unit in South West London. We are one of the top three centres for specialist paediatric surgery in London, and a centre of excellence in foetal medicine. Psychology plays a key role within children’s services; embedded within MDTs to deliver high quality evidence based and family integrated care.
The Paediatric Psychological Therapies Team is a large, friendly and expanding service. We consist of clinical psychologists, family therapists, mental health practitioners, assistant psychologists, trainees and administrators. Our service provides psychological support to both inpatient and outpatients, covering a wide range of specialties. There are many opportunities for CPD and a chance to develop your clinical skills.

Main duties of the job
- To enhance the provision of psychological health services to individuals with paediatric conditions (and their families / carers) as a member of the Paediatric Psychological Therapies Service. The role will focus on supporting our paediatric sickle cell service, alongside the wider specialties and general outpatients team.
- To provide psychological assessment / screening of children with specific health conditions, under the supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
- To manage an independent workload following a plan agreed, under the supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist, within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
- To participate in the preparation and delivery of group education programs, under the supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
- To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work in the Paediatric Psychological Therapies Service.
- To contribute towards the development of department clinical resources, leaflets, and workbooks.

- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and physical health problems.
- An understanding of psychology as applied to health care.

- Experience using databases or data-analysis.
- High standard of report writing.
- Experience administering psychometric tests.
