Are you looking to gain more clinical experience in mental health?
We are looking for a full time Assistant Psychologist to join our Community CAMHS Eating Disorder Team in Oxford, Oxfordshire, as part of Oxfordshire CAMHS Eating Disorder Service (CAEDS).
You will support service users on both a 1:1 and group basis including service users who might be neurodiverse. Other key roles and responsibilities will include co-facilitating assessments for the service and supporting in formulations, development of service literature and working with service users, carers and clinicians to collect high quality service audit data and to support the development of audit and/or research projects relating to the role.
The post is based in Raglan House, Cowley, which is a specialist CAMHS eating disorders service with a reputation for excellence. We offer a range of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders. There are opportunities for further training in the evidence-based treatments, including regular supervision.
The community team is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Nursing staff, an Occupational Therapist, Assistant Psychologists and Team Administrators. We also have good links with colleagues in the Adult Eating Disorders Services.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological, tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care
- To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
- To assist in the organisation, coordination and running of therapeutic groups for young people and their families/carers.
- To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects for eating disorder clients in services across CAMHS. To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

- Work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision
Desirable
- Previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist (either in a paid or voluntary capacity)
- Previous experience in a paid care capacity with people with eating disorders
- Previous experience in a paid care capacity within the NHS
Knowledge
Essential
- Experience and a good knowledge of Microsoft Office software and the ability to use specialised software, especially SPSS for Windows, for databases, analysis of research results, collating observation material and other uses
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care, and eating disorders.
Desirable
- High standard of report writing

- An upper second-class honours degree or higher in Psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable
- Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- Record of peer-reviewed publication
