Job overview

As an Associate Practitioner you will be required to perform ECG’s, respiratory testing and ambulatory monitoring in line with departmental policies.

Duties will include a range of basic cardiac and respiratory investigations and it is essential to have completed or be willing to work towards a foundation degree in Healthcare Science.

Only applicants with a proven history of working as an assistant technical officer in a busy inner city hospital will be considered for this post.

The post is 3 days per week.

Main duties of the job

The Cardio-Resp unit offers a wide range of diagnostic procedures including;

  • Full range of non invasive cardiac diagnostics, ECG and ambulatory.
  • Echocardiography including TOE, Stress Echo and 3D.
  • Physiologist led Tilt Table service.
  • Physiologist led exercise service.
  • Pacing implants and follow up.
  • Spirometry
  • Full respiratory testing
  • CPET
  • FENO and 6 minute walking tests.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To record ECG’s on the wards, in the department, in outpatients, accident and emergency and in the community. • To be proficient in ECG interpretation. • To assist physiologists in Transoesophageal Echocardiography • To assist with Physiologist led Tilt Table service. • To assist with Physiologist led exercise service. • Perform spirometry/ respiratory testing including the administration of Salbutamol.

  • Foundation degree in Health Care Science or equivalent
  • GCSE in Maths, English and Science Grade C or above or equivalent

  • Certificate of Electrocardiography of SCST
  • Enrolled Member of SCST
