Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic nurse who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred care, within our Endoscopy department.

As an Assistant Practitioner will work as part of a team, delivering health and social  care that focus on the direct needs of the service users.  Working autonomously within the clearly defined boundaries of their Assistant Practitioner role and carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities that may cross professional demarcations of care and therapy.

To participate in the care, maintenance and use of endoscopes that are used in  endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures, providing technical assistance during  procedures.

Main duties of the job

  • Preparation for the delivery of endoscopic procedures
  • Positioning individuals for endoscopic procedures
  • Assisting colleagues during endoscopic procedures
  • Admit, discharge and care planning of patients undergoing colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
  • Recovery of patients following endoscopic procedures
  • Utilise excellent communication skills with other members of the multidisciplinary team to include the endoscopist.
  • Knowledge of reprocessing of endoscopic equipment

Essential

  • Ability to undertake and interpret a range of patient observations as required in clinical area.  Ability to provide nursing/therapeutic care for a group of patients.  Ability to prioritise and organise own workload  Excellent written and verbal communication skills  Following training, ability to function as an assistant practitioner without direct supervision in an Endoscopy setting.

Desirable

  • Able to undertake detailed patient assessments within agreed protocols  Familiar with the admission and discharge of day case patients  Experience of recovering patients following sedation Specific skills  Provide high quality patient centred care, appropriate to patient need Requirements due to work environment/ conditions  Ability to work as part of a team and work under instruction, able to develop good relationships with colleagues, patients and carers.  Standard keyboard skill

  • Assistant Practitioner Qualification  Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Practice
