Job overview
A vacancy has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and reliable individual to join the Respiratory Physiology team in the role of Assistant Clinical Physiologist (Band 3). The role is primarily based in our specialist sleep centre at Charing Cross Hospital, where the service provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for a wide range of sleep disorders.
There is also the potential for a rotation into the Lung Function departments across the different Trust sites. You will join a multidisciplinary team including consultants, clinical scientists, physiologists and administrators.
You will be responsible for high-quality data acquisition and recording of observations during overnight sleep studies, preparation and downloading of home testing equipment and supplying replacement parts for sleep therapeutic equipment. The role involves working night shifts 1 week in 4 on a rotational basis. In lung function you will perform a range of basic diagnostic tests and support the physiologist staff with more complex testing.
This is a specialist role and direct experience is not required as full training will be given, but some experience with patients would be an advantage. Excellent customer service skills, empathy and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
Main duties of the job
- To support patients undergoing overnight sleep studies
- To perform routine diagnostic tests in sleep and lung function under supervision
- To assist in the efficient delivery of the CPAP follow-up service by ensuring timely and accurate recording of observations
- To provide support to patients as required during their time in the department
- To promote good practice in control of infection
- To assist with routine administrative issues such as booking follow-up appointments
