Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an assistant Audiologist to join our busy and friendly team in a full-time permanent post (37.5 hours per week).

You will need to be well-motivated, enthusiastic and keen to learn.   We are an innovative department, providing a comprehensive audiology service. You will support the team, undertaking a mix of clinical and administrative tasks, including requisition of stock, updating patient information, hearing aid repairs and follow up appointments. Full training will be provided for the clinical aspects of this role including taking aural impressions.

You must have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with patients who have significant hearing loss over the phone and in face to face appointments.

Main duties of the job

  • Work under pressure in an extremely busy clinic environment  2.    Carry out hearing aid repairs 3.    Carry out telephone and video triage and follow up appointments for adult and paediatric patients and families of paediatric patients. 4.    Support the clinical work of the Audiology Department 5.    Perform of variety of administrative tasks to help the Audiology team. This will include ordering and receipting of audiology specific items, and the processing of earmoulds. 6.    Help support patients in the management of hearing aids and hearing loss

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision according to departmental protocols in liaison with senior clinical members of the Audiology team.
  • Good basic key-board skills. Able to input clinical data and up-date computer-held patient records for every patient episode
  • To be able to communicate effectively: • With all patients, particularly those with significant hearing difficulties • In giving basic advice concerning appointments and the hearing aid service. • With other professionals and staff within and beyond Clinic 10(ENT) and Audiology • To be able to communicate effectively by telephone • With suppliers and procurement department
  • Able to plan and prioritise own administrative workload, particularly with respect to the telephone follow-up service. • Needs good organisational skills in processing aural impressions and earmoulds to and from manufacturers, • Attention to details, and financial awareness in dealing with paperwork from suppliers and procurement department. • Able to assist the audiologists in hearing aid queries.
  • Able to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to use judgement and background knowledge to identify patients requiring further intervention from an audiologist.

  • Use of patient management system and Oracle

  • Awareness of good communication tactics in dealing with patients with hearing loss
