The Clinical Engineering department at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust could be the start of an exciting engineering career. The department has a number of apprentice maintenance technician positions now available in the following sections;

We are looking for suitable candidates to undertake apprenticeships. The postholder will receive full training provided from both in-house and external training providers, and will be expected to complete academic training to Level 3 qualifications provided by Cambridge Regional College.

Clinical Engineering is primarily concerned with providing medical device management services in terms of procurement, repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment across the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is the responsibility of Clinical Engineering to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime. Clinical equipment covered incorporates electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer software and medical gas systems. The department works to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 quality standards and is responsible for the management of over 60,000 medical devices used across the hospital and in the community throughout East Anglia.

Applicants should have a minimum of five GCSEs at grade A* to C (9 to 4) to include maths, science and English.

Main duties of the job

• 2 x positions within the Medical Electronics technical services section •    1 x position within the Mechanical Engineering technical services section

You will train on delivering scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, safety and acceptance testing on a wide range of medical devices.

You are required to work to a high standard of safety and accountability.

You will be required to show good progress in the academic training.

You will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Due to UK apprenticeship funding regulations applications must:

• Have the right to work in England and hold an eligible residency status.
• Normally have been ordinarily resident in the UK, EEA or relevant area for at least 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship (unless an exemption applies).
• Where applicable, hold an appropriate immigration status (e.g. settled or pre settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme) and be able to demonstrate this status will remain valid for the duration of the apprenticeship - without an expiry/renewal date within the timeframe.
• Applicants must also: a.    Require new knowledge, skills and behaviours to undertake the apprenticeship. b.    Not already hold qualifications or experience that would duplicate the content of the apprenticeship (i.e. the programme must represent new learning rather than repetition of an existing qualification).
