Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS are looking for an applied psychologist or psychological therapist to support the development of an effective treatment pathway across primary care services within the Southampton Enhance Mental Health Primary Care Team.

In this role, you will help us develop and evaluate our enhanced mental health service in Southampton. You will devote time to direct clinical work including specialist psychological assessments, formulations, groups and individual therapy. You will also at times offer supervision and training to staff within the service.

This post will be a mixture of working from Frobisher House and working remotely.

This post would also be suitable for someone about to qualify as an Applied Psychologist and who will be registering with the HCPC or newly qualified as a Psychological Therapist and registering with the BABCP. Banding would be adjusted until registration is approved.

Main duties of the job

This post will work within the Primary Care Network developing key relationships involving General Practitioners, Primary Care colleagues, Talking Therapies, secondary care mental health services, other non HIOW health care staff (e.g., Inclusion) and non-statutory organisations (e.g. MIND) and universities. The post holder will also be involved in raising the awareness of mental health difficulties in the general population.

The characteristics of the core population include people diagnosed with enduring mental health needs (psychosis, bi-polar, complex depression) and complex emotional needs who may find it difficult to:

Make or maintain relationships

Connect with other people, including friends, family or work colleagues

Manage and control their emotions

Cope with life and difficult feelings

Control their behaviours and impulses

The post holder will be expected to develop a holistic formulation, working with patients identified with an underlying condition in the context of the formulation derived. This may include formulating and understanding a range of behaviours, including disordered eating, in the context of trauma informed formulation. This role will also have a focus on providing group interventions.
