Advanced Speech and Language Therapist - Complex Airway and Respiratory

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated speech and language therapist who has specialist knowledge and experience of working with patients with complex airway and respiratory needs, to join our specialist acute SLT team at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will work primarily  with babies, children and young people with complex tracheostomy and long-term ventilation needs, in both an inpatient and pout-patient capacity. There will also be opportunities to work more generally across the wards with patients with complex dysphagia and communication needs.

We are interested in receiving applications from qualified SLTs who have the relevant  knowledge and experience for this role, either due to having already worked with paediatrics in this specialist area or those of you with transferable skills due to prior adult experience. Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide a regional highly specialist SLT triage, assessment, differential diagnosis and intervention service for children (0-18 years) referred with complex airway and respiratory needs. This may include assessment and management of tracheostomy needs, communication difficulties and dysphagia. The post, based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, involves working in the acute setting on the wards, including the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and in outpatient clinics. In line with service demand, the post holder will also provide a highly specialist SLT service to other patients admitted to BCH.
