This post presents an excellent opportunity to develop advanced pharmacist skills in rheumatology, maintaining and developing the service while the post holder is on maternity leave.

Should you be successful in securing this role you will join a friendly pharmacy team committed to providing high quality pharmaceutical care. Although your role will be primarily based in clinics, you will contribute to the ward clinical service, supporting junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and trainees.

This post would suit an experienced pharmacist, who will strive to improve quality of care for our patients. Although previous experience of working with Rheumatology patients is desirable, it is not essential as training will be provided.  Hours of work will be Monday to Friday with a requirement to work 1 weekend in 10 with corresponding time off during the week.  There is also a requirement to work at least one public holiday per annum.

Main duties of the job

Those most suited to this post will be self-motivated, able to work independently and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Positive demonstration of the Trusts PRIDE values is a pre-requisite. We would support professional development of advanced practice roles, leadership capabilities and completion of an independent prescribing qualification if they do not already have one.

This post will see the successful candidate working directly with the Rheumatology Department, becoming an integral part of the Multidisciplinary Team. The role will lead on biosimilar switching within rheumatology, with optimisation of biologics pathways opportunities.

This post can be worked over 3-5 day working patterns to suit the applicant. All staff are required to work 1 in 10 weekends with corresponding time off given during the week. All staff are required to undertake at least one bank holiday duty per year.  All rotas are subject to review at any time.  We can offer this as a progressional Band 7 to 8a post if you do not fully meet the specification for the band 8a post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Other key aspects of the role include supporting the rheumatology specialist nurses in rheumatology – PGD reviews, competency documents for non-medical prescribing, mentorship for nurses wishing to become non-medical prescribers. Involvement in clinical governance processes, such as development of policies and procedures relating to the use of medicines within rheumatology.

The holder of this post will provide medicines information support and antimicrobial stewardship to the rheumatology department. As part of the role the successful applicant will also support inpatient ward clinical care as part of the wider pharmacy department clinical team.
