An excellent opportunity for an experienced and passionate mental health pharmacist to join our established liaison psychiatry team at Kingston Hospital.
The successful candidate will have a strong clinical background in mental health pharmacy, and good knowledge of physical health issues is essential. They must be able to work and make decisions autonomously in an acute hospital environment, and integrate with the acute trust pharmacy teams. They will be enthusiastic, innovative, flexible, proactive and have knowledge of how our business supports patient care. The applicant will also be integrated into and supported by the experienced and innovative mental health pharmacy team at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLStG).

Main duties of the job
With a strong understanding of current pharmaceutical standards of practice, national guidance and recent initiatives in pharmacy, the successful candidate will demonstrate how their work supports both organisational priorities and high‑quality patient care. The role requires a strong clinical background in mental health pharmacy, alongside an innovative, flexible and proactive approach to service delivery and service improvement.
Higher postgraduate qualifications in clinical pharmacy are essential, and a postgraduate certificate in psychiatric therapeutics and a non‑medical prescribing qualification are highly desirable. The successful candidate must demonstrate compassion, respect and a recovery‑focused approach when working with people with mental health problems. They should be driven to improve patient care through high‑quality medicines optimisation, able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and committed to delivering safe, person‑centred and evidence‑based pharmacy services.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To deliver an advanced comprehensive medicines optimisation service to patients and the multidisciplinary treatment team responsible for their care. • To act as a role model and provide a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service for the agreed speciality in line with Trust objectives and NHS Plan. • To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels. • To ensure pharmaceutical care issues are appropriately raised within the acute Trust and is reflected in mental health Trust policies. • To liaise with acute/mental health Trust pharmacy staff to support an effective dispensing and supply service. • To identify and implement a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical services to acute Trusts. • To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist which may include attending senior meetings.

EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Demonstrable advanced experience of working as a clinical pharmacist practitioner in mental health
- Appropriate clinical experience and expertise in Mental Health
- Experience of supervising staff
- Experience of developing & delivering training and education to the multidisciplinary team
- Experience of developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating protocols and guidelines
Desirable
- Experience of clinical practice in mental health urgent care (PICU)
- Experience of managing change
- Previous experience in undertaking audit and research
- Use of JAC for EPMA
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
- PG Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development
Desirable
- Member of the CMHP
- Member of the RPS
- Independent Prescribing qualification
- Registered non-medical prescriber
- Practice/Educational Supervisor
- QII training or equivalent experience
- PG Certificate/Diploma in Psychiatric therapeutics
