Job overview

The Mental Health Pharmacy Team has recently undergone a pharmacy service restructure, creating a number of exciting opportunities for service development and innovation. This role includes newly secured funding to support the delivery of pharmacy services to our Adolescent Mental Health Unit and Community Mental Health Teams.

The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping and developing these new services, demonstrating their value, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of patient care across mental health services.

Delivering a specialised clinical pharmacy service to promote and facilitate the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines within the Mental Health Care Group. The post holder will be expected to deliver clinical care directly to patients within specialist therapeutic areas, and to mentor and train post foundation, trainee and other pharmacists in this area of speciality. They will be expected to provide specialist clinical pharmacy advice at directorate, directorate speciality and other specialist meetings, developing policies and protocols with current evidence and best practices. They will be expected to undertake patient consultations and prescribe where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

To include providing clinical pharmacy services within the Outpatient Mental Health team including in Adult Community Mental Health Teams.

To include development, audit, monitoring and provision of clinical pharmacy services and directorate support services to the mental health directorate. This consists of providing specialist advice and expertise to clinicians, nursing staff, business and finance managers, to ensure the safe, effective and economic use of medicines.

To provide specialist clinical pharmacy advice at directorate, directorate speciality and other specialist meetings, developing policies and protocols with current evidence and best practices.

To deliver clinical care directly to patients within specialist therapeutic areas, and to mentor and train post foundation, trainee and other pharmacists in this area of speciality.

To take lead responsibility for the development and delivery of practice research within the area of specialism.

Person specification

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience as a clinical pharmacist
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience of working as Independent Prescribing in specialist area

Desirable

  • Evidence of clinical audit, practice research
  • Evidence of implementation of procedures/polcies/protocols

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement
  • Able to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multi-disciplinary team and management

Desirable

  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role
  • Positive attitude to change

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent e.g. BSc/BPharm/MPharm. Registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Appropriate postgraduate qualification e.g. clinical diploma, or equivalent clinical experience
  • Independent Prescriber

Desirable

  • Member of RPS faculty or building portfolio for credentialling
  • Member of Specialist professional group (RPS/CMHP)
