Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Mammographer in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust to join the Breast Unit at Wycombe General Hospital. You will be responsible for participating in all aspects of the breast imaging service across both screening and symptomatic settings, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care. The role involves performing screening and symptomatic mammography, including tomosynthesis, biopsies, vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB), vacuum-assisted excision (VAE), and lesion localisation using Magseed or RF tags. You will also support breast screening mobile unit moves, assist with staff training, help organise workloads, and take responsibility for your own clinical practice and ongoing professional development.
Main duties of the job
As an Advanced Mammographer, you will be responsible for supporting the strategic development of the breast imaging service and contributing to quality improvement initiatives through quality assurance programmes, governance activities, and departmental audits. You will work alongside senior colleagues to provide leadership support and deputise as the Lead Unit Mammographer when required. The role also includes supporting service delivery during extended operating hours, ensuring adherence to professional regulations, Trust policies, and clinical standards. In addition, you will actively engage in peer review processes and contribute to maintaining a culture of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.

Job responsibilities
- To ensure safe preparation, positioning, and coordination of patients during advanced breast imaging interventions, maintaining vigilance throughout procedures to support patient comfort and clinical safety. You will be responsible for ensuring all required equipment and procedural setups are completed accurately in line with clinical requirements.
- To support the delivery of specialist imaging investigations by assisting with procedural requirements in interventional breast care, ensuring readiness of materials and supporting clinicians during diagnostic and therapeutic activities. You will contribute to maintaining smooth workflow within complex procedural environments.
- To apply advanced observational skills to support image acquisition decisions during examinations, recognising when additional imaging inputs may be required to support further clinical review. You will assist in ensuring imaging outputs meet diagnostic expectations for consultant evaluation.
- To contribute to the coordination of departmental activity through effective prioritisation of tasks within a dynamic clinical setting, ensuring continuity of service delivery across varied operational demands. You will help maintain structured workflow across different imaging functions throughout the day.
- To support the integration of new and developing practices within the imaging environment, contributing to the adoption of updated techniques, equipment usage, and evolving service approaches. You will help facilitate smooth implementation of changes within the clinical setting.

Qualifications
Essential
- HCPC registered Radiographer.
- Qualified Mammographer holding a recognised British mammography qualification.
- Minimum 3 years experience in mammography.
- Experience in breast imaging (screening and symptomatic).
- Active engagement in CPD and professional development.
