Job overview

This exciting new post is ideal for an experienced Dietitian with expertise in Gastroenterology, who will drive our Trust wide gastroenterology service. You will work closely with the Nutrition Team, the gastroenterology ward and the Trust’s dietetic department as part of a dynamic and supportive team in a busy district general hospital.    The post will focus on:

  • acute inpatient Gastroenterology, Critical Care and Parenteral Nutrition responsibilities ·       Nutrition Team liaison to support decision making in complex nutrition support ·       gastroenterology outpatient clinic direct line management responsibilities ·       Service develop and quality improvement projects

There will be an opportunity to further develop clinical and professional skills such as FODMAP training, and ongoing professional development, managerial and leadership skills.   We are a friendly team and offer great opportunities for learning and support through clinical supervision, peer learning and CPD opportunities including supporting B & C student placements. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner and act as a source of clinical expertise using high quality, evidence-based practise in the area of gastroenterology for inpatient and outpatient areas.

Provide specialised assessment, treatment, and support of patients in critical care, and in intestinal failure requiring dietetic treatment with other members of the Nutrition Team

Lead on service development and quality improvement initiatives in this specialist area including audit and research

To work as a member of the Nutrition & Dietetic Department, developing and leading on dietetic services for gastroenterology working across integrated services to achieve improved health outcomes for this patient co-hort.

To work autonomously, developing the dietetic service to ensure complex, nutrition support gastroenterology patients including those on artificial nutrition support,  are met within in-patient and out-patient pathways at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

To work autonomously, building excellent communication and handover processes with community services to ensure seamless care for patients moving between acute and community care within the Gastroenterology pathway.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or post-grad equivalent in Dietetics
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent in specialist area of nutritional support, gastroenterology, critical care, parenteral nutrition, PENG (equating to a module of master’s degree)

Desirable

  • Qualification in advanced communication skills or coaching

Skills, abilities, professional membership

Essential

  • post- registration specialist experience in dietetics, including experience at complex, specialist level
  • Working with a range of clinical conditions related to gastroenterology as well as critical care and parenteral nutrition
  • Experience of developing, implementing and managing projects; quality improvement and service development.
  • Significant experience of developing and implementing guidelines, protocols and strategies
  • Evidence of leadership skills, including managing or supervising others.
  • Knowledge of national polices and evidence relevant to clinical specialty
  • Student training experience
  • Ability to document and record accurate records in line with national standards
  • Competent user of IT equipment & basic software (email, word processing, data input etc)
  • experience of working within a MDT nutrition team

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge of nutritional support including nutritional screening, food first principles, diet adaption for gastroenterological conditions including enteral feeding, disordered eating and EDS.
  • Membership of the specialist group of the BDA and other relevant professional organisations.
  • Membership of BDA.
