Job overview
Same day emergency care has become pivotal to delivering urgent and emergency care. It offers the opportunity to get involved in the delivery of new models of care, a range of presentations and exciting case mix in a controlled and supportive environment. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has two emergency medicine run SDEC units on the St Mary's and Charing Cross sites and are expanding the service on both sites to optimise patient pathways.
We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic practitioners with a minimum of 1 year experience in emergency or acute medicine who will contribute to this expansion and enhancement of the quality of care to patients. We work alongside acute medicine SDEC and collaborate closely with other specialties.
There are opportunities to develop improvement skills, research and education skills as well as access to the resources of Imperial College. Postholders have personal development time in addition to study leave and will be able to work in the Emergency Department on shifts if that is part of the personal development plan.
Main duties of the job

- Communicate effectively with diverse groups; patients, carers, relatives where the practitioner may need to breakdown and interpret highly complex information in order to provide reassurance and/or ensure understanding and motivate the individual to co-operate with their treatment plan. The practitioner may also need to break bad news in a sensitive, empathetic manner.
