Following a comprehensive service review, NHS Borders is making a significant investment in our Pharmacy team. This reflects a clear recognition of the vital role pharmacists play in ensuring that treatments are safe, effective, and deliver the best possible value for patients and the wider health system.
This is an exciting moment to join us as we develop and enhance our pharmacy services in line with the new NHS Borders Clinical Strategy, an opportunity to develop advanced clinical expertise while playing a key role in delivering high-quality pharmacy services across Women and Children's services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Pharmacist with a passion for Paediatrics and Women's services to join our forward-thinking and highly respected team. You will be embedded within the multidisciplinary team, working alongside clinicians, nurse specialists and allied health professionals to deliver outstanding patient care.
This post provides an excellent opportunity to further develop leadership skills within a supportive environment and to contribute to multi-disciplinary improvement work around the cost effective and safe use of medicines.
We are a friendly, supportive, and forward-thinking department, committed to helping you achieve your career ambitions. You'll be encouraged to:
- Develop advanced and enhanced advanced practice capabilities, with opportunities to pursue consultant-level credentialing where appropriate.
- Utilise and expand your skills as a non-medical prescriber
- Pursue further study with full support from the team
- Engage in practice-based research to drive innovation and improve patient care
- Take an active role in the supervision and training of staff and students, to act as a role model
Working closely with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide specialist clinical pharmacy services and advice to the clinical specialities within the Women and Children's Directorates including Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Acute Paediatrics, Maternity and Obstetric Services, Community Paediatrics and Gynaecology, demonstrating a high level of clinical effectiveness.
We recognise that work life balance is important for our colleagues and so we invite requests from applicants for part-time working (0.6WTE post). Days of the week and working hours are negotiable.
This role includes a small commitment to on-call and weekend working.

Whether you’re early in your career or looking to take the next step into a more senior role, NHS Borders offers a supportive environment where you can grow, influence change, and make a real impact.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.
For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form

- Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
- Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
- Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
