The post is for a period of 2 years with sponsorship.

Applicants should have an interest in education and/or audit projects and be willing to organise and deliver such projects.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for dynamic and ambitious individuals wishing to follow a career in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia. Glenfield undertakes over 1200 Adult cardiac and over 1000 Thoracic operations a year providing ample opportunity to become an independent practitioner in this subspecialty.

You will have the opportunity to train in 2D and 3D Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and FICE leading to accreditation in these areas. We have recently acquired a Vimedix multimodality ultrasound simulator with exciting training programmes such as cardiac anatomy, TOE & TTE (showing normal heart and pathologies), chest ultrasound, critical care echo teaching package and FAST scanning. Successful candidates are guaranteed a place on Glenfield Hospital’s popular FICE course and the internationally renowned transesophageal ECHO course.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To provide cardiac and thoracic anaesthesia for theatre and catheter room sessions. •    To provide continued care of patients on the combined Adult intensive Care Unit •     Participate in the on-call rota. •    The  post  holder  will  be  expected  to  be  under  direct  or  indirect  supervision  of  a consultant at all times and it is the responsibility of the consultant to decide which cases the post holder is capable of anaesthetising independently. •    Contribute to the responsibilities and running of the department/ directorate. •    Develop  and  sustain  appropriate  systems  and  practice  to  encourage  clinical  audit throughout the department.
  • To  participate  in  and  contribute  to  the  clinical  governance  process,  to  ensure  good standards of practice as prescribed by the GMC guidance on good practice. •    To   take   responsibility   for   their   Continuing   Medical   Education   and   Professional development with the support of the Trust. •    The post holder will be expected to take part in clinical teaching. •    The post holder will ensure that adverse clinical incidents as defined by the Trusts policy are reported in a timely manner according to Trust policy.
