Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has risen for an Advanced Audiologist to join the Adult Diagnostic service within the Audiology team at the RNENTED Hospitals. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract primarily covering Community ENT, Tele-otology services, and Adult Diagnostic clinics.

As an Advanced Audiologist, you will be providing high-quality audiological care to adult patients with a wide range of complexities. You will be responsible for supporting your manager and ensuring that our service user’ needs are met through the delivery of high -quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage a highly specialist and complex adult audiology caseload, providing advanced assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation for patients with hearing, balance and tinnitus disorders. You will deliver evidence-based care in line with national standards, ensuring excellent patient experience and outcomes.

You will take an advanced role within the service, supporting clinical governance, protocol development, staff supervision and training. Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across ENT, Audiovestibular Medicine and community services, you will contribute to service development, quality improvement, education and research, while helping to ensure safe, effective and efficient service delivery across community sites.

The successful candidate will maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out Adult Diagnostic testing procedures.

Responsible for adult caseload of patient primarily requiring hearing test procedures.

Support colleague in AVM, ENT with audiological testing.

Treat all patients with dignity and care in a safe supportive manner whilst adhering to clinical governance requirements.

General

Essential

  • ALL STAFF: Advanced signal processing hearing aids including fitting, verification, and evaluation methods.
  • Knowledge required for specific areas: DIAGNOSTICS: Theoretical knowledge of advanced electrophysiological and neurovestibular assessments in adults

Experience

Essential

  • • Demonstrable experience in the relevant clinical area and evidence of clinical competency with a complex patient caseload
  • • Specialist knowledge of routine and non-routine diagnostic/ therapeutic audiological assessment procedures, their interpretation, and their implications for patient management
  • • Experience in formulating comprehensive management plans based on case history information and diagnostic test results, where management decisions may or may not be straightforward.
  • • Experience of working with hearing impaired patients / parents / carers and associated professionals
  • • Evidence of participation in clinical audit, research, and / or presentations at scientific meetings

Desirable

  • • Evidence of financial and stock management

  • • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • • Fluent English speaker.
  • • Ability to effectively and accurately communicate sensitive information to staff, patients, and relatives.
  • • Ability to overcome barriers to communication in patients of all ages, especially with the profoundly deaf and patients reliant on sign or language interpreters.
  • • Able to adapt communication to meet the needs of the situation, including in stressful or conflict clinical and non-clinical situations.
  • • Ability to effectively communicate highly technical and/or condition related. information to patients and/or carers

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • • MSc in Clinical Audiology/Hearing Therapy or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in field CAC or equivalent post graduate experience
  • • Registered to practice as an Audiologist/ Clinical Scientist/Hearing Therapist with either Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
  • • Significant post- graduate experience in relevant clinical area
  • • Evidence of post graduate CPD
  • • Applied theoretical knowledge of the relevant assessment and therapeutic/rehabilitative procedures for the management of audiological or vestibular conditions in adults and/or children.
  • • Knowledge of impact of co- morbidities such as global delay or neurological conditions in the management of adults and/or children

Desirable

  • • Membership of BAA, BSA
  • • Post graduate management/leadership training or experience as supervisor.

  • • Experience in leading staff using motivation and enthusiasm.
  • • Experience in managing staff in a hierarchical structure.
  • • Experience in working within services in line with performance targets.
  • • Participating in service improvements and clinical audit or services/pathways
