Main duties of the job
This is a varied clinical role which involves working in both acute and outpatient settings. This will include domiciliary visits within care homes and within service users own homes. You will be an autonomous practitioner responsible for the assessment, diagnosing and management of adult patients referred with communication and/or swallowing disorders associated with neurological disorders, trauma, voice disorders and stammering. You will also use evidence-based/client-centred principles to implement and evaluate Speech and Language intervention. You will be supported to work towards attaining your dysphagia competencies as required, and will receive excellent clinical supervision and support. This is offered as a development Band 5 (Annex T) role and is a great opportunity for you to develop. Youll be providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, follow up, evaluation and consultancy services for service users with support initially from our senior team members, progressing to be an autonomous practitioner. Essential
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Comprehensive evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Post basic dysphagia certification (working towards this qualification will be considered)

- Recognised postgraduate courses

- Provision of training to other professionals
- Experience of delivering nurse swallow screen training
- Good verbal and written skills
- Highly developed listening and auditory skills
- Ability to effectively prioritise and manage own caseload

- Has a working knowledge of alternative methods of communication and communication aids
- Involvement in collecting outcome measures
- Basic IT skills e.g. Microsoft office
