Band 7 Adult Optimisation Occupational Therapist-Oncology
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts. We are looking for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist who is ready for new challenges or an experienced Band 6 who is seeking promotional opportunities to join our Prehabilitation and Geriatric Oncology teams.
The successful post holder will hold a leading role in the on-going development and running of a multidisciplinary Prehabilitation service and Geriatric Oncology Service. The prehabilitation service sits within an innovative wider multidisciplinary team with many developmental opportunities for the post-holder such as level 2 psychological skills training and regular clinical supervision from the clinical psychology team to support the development and evaluation of the OT role within Prehabilitation. Additionally, there is opportunity to develop clinical skills in the newly established Geriatric Oncology Service working closely with other professionals in the outpatient clinics enhancing the provision to frail patients.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate should be a dedicated, skilled and motivated clinician with wide breadth of experience including; cognitive assessment, frailty screening and fatigue management. Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of cancer treatments and consequences of treatment related side effects. Including frailty, fatigue, cognitive impairment, psychological distress etc.
- Knowledge of risk factors for morbidity and mortality post-surgery, and how optimisation may mitigate these.
- Knowledge of person centred care, positive psychology, behaviour change and self-management
- Knowledge of health issues affecting the local population and strategies in place to support improvement in these areas
- Demonstrate understanding and appropriate application of principles surrounding risk management, Trust’s policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety
Desirable
- Awareness of Local and National Cancer Directives including how prehabilitation fits with personalised care
- Awareness of Geriatric Oncology Guidelines
Experience
Essential
- Experience working at band 6 or equivalent level.
- Experience of service development and audit
- Experience in working in an outpatient setting
- Broad ranging experience in the oncology, neurological and surgical setting
- Experience of clinical education of students, developing educational programmes, teaching and presenting
- Experience of multi-professional working
Desirable
- Previous experience working at a band 7 level
- Experience in working within a prehabilitation setting
- xperience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve patient care quality.
Qualifications
Essential
- Knowledge Essential Degree/ Diploma in Occupational
- Therapy Registered Member of HCPC Post graduate
- Post graduate courses relevant to the clinical speciality
Desirable
- Evidence of Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant clinical area
- Member of special interest group
- Member of RCOT
Skills / personal attributes & abilities
Essential
- Highly developed communication skills i.e. Advanced Communication skills or equivalent
- Advanced skills in assessing, clinically reasoning and treating cognition, frailty, physical, ADL, fatigue and psycho-social issues.
- Able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own and others workloads to changing and often tight deadlines
- Enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility and self-motivation
- Ability to communicate effectively and flexibly and to adapt communication style to the needs of patient and staff.
Desirable
- High level of data collection and analytical skills.
- High skill level in neurology assessments including cognition, sensation, vision, proprioception
