An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at one of the UK’s largest NHS Trusts. We are looking for a Band 7 Dietitian who is ready for new challenges or an experienced Band 6 who is seeking promotional opportunities to join our Prehabilitation team and Geriatric Oncology teams. We are pleased to be expanding our well-established team to continue providing a trust wide Prehabilitation service. The successful post holder will hold a leading role in the on-going development and running of a multidisciplinary Prehabilitation Service and Geriatric Oncology Service. The post-holder, supported by the clinical lead, will work alongside a physiotherapist and occupational therapist as well as a team of exercise physiologists across the trust to deliver a service that will not only reduce complications from hospital treatment but aim to improve patients’ long-term health as they adopt positive lifestyle changes. Additionally, there is opportunity to develop clinical skills in the newly established Geriatric Oncology Service working closely with other professionals in the outpatient clinics enhancing the provision to frail patients If you are excited by this opportunity, we’d love to hear from you. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate should be a dedicated, skilled and motivated clinician with a wide breadth of experience in oncology, management of long-term conditions as well as having excellent nutrition support skills. Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of cancer treatments and consequences of treatment related side effects.
- Knowledge of pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiencies
- Knowledge of risk factors for morbidity and mortality post-surgery, and how nutritional optimisation may mitigate these.
- Knowledge of person centred care, positive psychology, behaviour change and self-management
- Knowledge of health issues affecting the local population and strategies in place to support improvement in these areas
- Demonstrate understanding and appropriate application of principles surrounding risk management, Trust’s policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety
Desirable
- Awareness of Local and National Cancer Directives including how prehabilitation fits with personalised care
- Awareness of Geriatric Oncology Guidelines
Experience
Essential
- Experience working at band 6 or equivalent level.
- Experience of service development and audit.
- Broad ranging experience in the oncology and surgical setting.
- Evidence of experience in complex nutrition support including ethical nutrition issues
- Experience of clinical education of students, developing educational programmes, teaching and presenting.
- Experience of multi-professional working
Desirable
- Previous experience working at a band 7 level.
- Experience of setting up a new service
- Experience in working within a prehabilitation setting.
- Experience using Bioelectrical Impedance machines
- Experience of using clinical governance framework to monitor and improve patient care quality.
- Experience in weight management.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree/Qualification in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
- Registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council
Desirable
- Evidence of Masters level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant clinical area
- Active member of relevant special interest group
- Post graduate courses relevant to the clinical speciality
Skills / personal attributes & abilities:
Essential
- Highly developed communication skills i.e. Advanced Communication skills or equivalent
- Competent IT skills including MS office applications.
- Advanced nutritional assessment and intervention skills to maximise physiological nutritional status in an often short time period.
- Able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own and others workloads to changing and often tight deadlines
- Enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility and self-motivation
- Ability to communicate effectively and flexibly and to adapt communication style to the needs of patient and staff.
- Able to promote the role of the Dietitian within the MDT and also at trust level.
Desirable
- High level of data collection and analytical skills.
