Join a growing specialist Hand Therapy Service at Barnsley Hospital.
Are you an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a passion for upper limb rehabilitation? Are you looking to develop specialist skills within Hand Therapy whilst working in a supportive, friendly and ambitious team?
We have an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Hand Therapy Service as a Band 56 Annex 21 Development Hand Therapist. This post is open to both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and offers a structured development pathway for clinicians wishing to specialise in this rewarding area of practice.
Whether you are an experienced Band 5 looking for your next challenge or already have some hand therapy experience, we will provide the support, supervision and development opportunities to help you progress to Band 6 through Annex 21.
Main duties of the job
Applicants who do not yet meet all the Band 6 competencies are encouraged to apply.
A comprehensive development programme will include:
Structured clinical supervision.
Competency-based progression.
Supported development in splinting, scar management, tendon rehabilitation
Opportunities to attend specialist courses and professional development events.
Regular appraisal against agreed competencies leading to progression to Band 6 on successful completion of the Annex U21 programme.
You will be:
HCPC registered as an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
Passionate about delivering excellent patient care.
Motivated to develop clinical expertise.
An excellent communicator with strong team-working skills.
Enthusiastic about continuous learning.
Previous experience within MSK, Trauma & Orthopaedics, upper limb rehabilitation or splinting would be advantageous but is not essential for applicants entering via the development pathway.

Essential
- Significant post-graduate clinical experience, with experience in each of the following areas Hand Therapy
- Experience of Splinting (Static)
- Experience of Evidence Based Practice and Risk Assessment.
Desirable
- Experience of audit/research
- Experience in the NHS in the UK as a qualified physiotherapist.
- Member of specialist interest group BAHT
- MCSP/RCOT
- Experience of supervision of assistants
