
Job summary
The post holder will work within Acute Medical Unit Nursing team, working closely in liaison with AMU Co-ordinator to support flow.
The post holder will maintain a visible and active presence on AMU and will liaise with the Lead Nurse/Nurse in Charge to support the smooth running of all aspects of patient flow for the Acute Medical Unit.
The postholder will assist the nursing staff in the delivery of the highest standard of nursing care. Supporting the delivery and achievement of quality standards, both those agreed locally and dictated by national policy.
The post holder will provide real time capacity information to the AMU coordinator to support with patient flow throughout AMU and ED. In order to accomplish this excellent organisational skills are essential as the post holder will be required to work under the direction of the AMU Lead Nurses / AMU coordinator and manage their workload day to day so that they are able to meet deadlines.
It is essential that you must hold a Care Certificate and is desirable that you have previous knowledge and experience of patient flow.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse at all times.
The postholder will undertake a range of duties as designated by the registered nurse on duty, this will include general housekeeping duties.
The postholder will assist the qualified staff in the delivery of nursing care in the ward/department.
To work within the multi-disciplinary team to provide real time information to the Nurse in charge.
Communicate efficiently and in a timely manner to ensure any potential problems are escalated.
To communicate immediately any potential problems regarding a patients discharge to the appropriate person to ensure that problems are escalated to a member of the nursing team and the process is proactive.
Liaise with staff to facilitate the safe and timely discharge of patients and respond as required to day-to-day demands in service.
To undertake clinical skills within competence to promote patient flow and discharges.
Appropriately log jobs with Estates and IT when required.
Assist with the administration and day to day running of the Acute Medical Unit, utilising the IT infrastructure that supports it.
To support 7 day a week provision of service.
Support of transport for patients being transferred, utilising appropriate resources to facilitate this.
