The Role

The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of a high quality, highly specialist psychological service to adults with complex, severe and/or enduring mental health difficulties referred to Psychological Services, primarily within the Bellshill locality. The role may include an area-wide remit, undertaking clinical work across the ten NHS Lanarkshire Psychological Therapies Teams, where necessary, to ensure equity of service.

The core focus of the role is the autonomous delivery of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment for clients, their families and/or carers referred from GPs and multidisciplinary colleagues, predominantly on an outpatient basis. This will include the provision of both individual and, where appropriate, group interventions delivered in person or digitally.

The post-holder will act as a highly specialised clinician, contributing to the delivery and ongoing development of Psychological Services in collaboration with the Locality Coordinator/Head of Specialism. This may include providing consultation, supervision, teaching and training to professional colleagues across settings.

There is an expectation to provide clinical and professional leadership within the team, including supporting and supervising qualified psychologists, trainees, assistant psychologists and other mental health clinicians. The post-holder will contribute to staff development processes, including supervision, case management discussions and

identification of training needs, and may deputise for the Locality Co-ordinator as required. This includes representing the service at referral allocation meetings, team meetings and wider organisational forums.

Applicants must hold a Doctoral level qualification (or equivalent) in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). They should have significant experience working with individuals with complex and enduring mental health difficulties, alongside experience of providing consultation, teaching and supervision to other professionals.

The post-holder will have completed formal training in supervision and demonstrate ongoing professional development, ideally including additional post-qualification training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches relevant to the service (e.g. CFT, EMDR, Schema Therapy).

A strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, clinical standards, and local and national policies is required, alongside experience of contributing to service development or supporting senior psychologists in delivering strategic objectives within Psychological Services.

In this key role, you will:

  • To provide a systematic and autonomous highly specialist psychological service to adults with highly complex and severe psychological difficulties, including assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and treatment
  • To provide clinical and professional supervision to qualified Psychologists, trainee Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, and other mental health clinicians
  • To participate as a senior clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service for clients, their carers and families, extending to the provision of training, support and consultation to other disciplines across a range of services
  • Responsible for screening referrals, includes assessing the appropriateness of referrals and to liaise with referrers and other professionals involved in the clients care.

What You'll Bring:

  • To have a post-graduate Doctoral Level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Registered Clinical or Registered Counselling.
  • To have significant experience in working with individuals, their family or carers, who experience complex and enduring mental health difficulties
  • To have significant experience in supporting, teaching and consultation with other mental health professionals working within psychological settings
  • To have proven ability to undertake formative and summative clinical assessments, and prepare reports demonstrating interpretation of findings
