The Role

To assist with the provision of the pharmacy service by participating in:

The accurate and safe assembly of medicines to be dispensed

The accurate and safe receipt, storage, distribution and delivery of medicines

The production, monitoring and filing of documentation

A ward stock management service

In this key role, you will:

To receive prescriptions and orders at pharmacy dispensary from nurses, patients or portering staff.

To dispense individual in-patient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions which may include cytotoxics, named patient medicines and controlled drugs following standard operating procedures.

To receive and distribute all types of pharmaceutical products (including intravenous fluids aseptic and cytotoxic preparations) into the pharmacy department from wholesalers and other hospitals.

To receive / check medical gases and ensure appropriate storage.

To deal with telephone and face to face enquiries or pass onto the most appropriate person.

What You'll Bring:

Scottish Vocational Qualification Pharmacy Services Level II or working towards or equivalent experience.

Or Postholders with no previous experience will be treated in accordance with Annex 21 Arrangements for Pay and Banding of Trainees

Initial induction period of up to 3 months, followed by a period of training and consolidation to achieve full competency within 12 months following induction.

Be capable of understanding and working within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
