The Role
This is a full-time post within a highly motivated and innovative psychology service delivering a clinical service within HMP Shotts. The successful applicant will support the service lead and wider team, in the delivery and governance of a high quality psychology service within in HMP Shotts. They will work alongside psychology colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team providing assessment, care and treatment to individuals currently in prison. They will undertake assessment, formulation and provide psychological therapies to service users and offer indirect intervention, where appropriate. They will be involved in promoting psychologically informed approaches, provide teaching/ training, supervision and consultation to other professionals, and encouraged to have involvement in quality improvement and research.The post holder will be line managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist within the respective services and will have regular supervision and access to continuing professional development. In this key role, you will:
Provide a highly specialised psychological assessment and treatment service to Adult Psychological Therapies, exercising autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients. This may include provision of legal reports and/or expert witness testimonies as required by courts, and cognitive/neuropsychological assessment.
Identify Service priorities in line with current best practice and Clinical Standards/Guidelines in liaison with the relevant Locality Co-ordinator/Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
Be aware of relevant legislation and to make appropriate decisions, for example, in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect. This will involve carrying out appropriate risk assessment to self and others.
Provide core specialist clinical placements and clinical supervision to trainee clinical psychologists from the West and East of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Courses, the M.Sc. Courses in Primary Care (Adults) at Stirling/Dundee Universities and other trainees as appropriate, ensuring that they meet the level of clinical competency required by the relevant courses.
Be responsible for the appraisal of clinical performance and assessment of core competencies in trainee clinical psychologists on Doctoral programmes and other trainees as appropriate.
What You'll Bring:
Have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and be a Registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council in the UK.
Complete further courses of additional learning as relevant to the clinical skills required for the post and identified as significant in the Personal Development Plan, and have accredited training in the supervision of Post Graduate clinical trainees.
Have knowledge of NHSL Health Board's Policies and Procedures, and national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care e.g. child protection guidelines.
Have knowledge of psychiatry and other related professions in order to understand complex clinical presentations.
Work in a sensitive manner with respect to diversity and gender, ethnic, culture and philosophical issues with a wide range of individuals and organisations
