The Role

The post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and delivery of high quality care to hyper acute stroke patients. This will be mainly dealing with those patients who have had an acute stroke and who have presented to the emergency department. The role will include attending stroke inpatient events within the wider hospital. The post holders, working with the stroke consultant, will have responsibility for the management of newly diagnosed stroke patients to facilitate the assessment and treatment of patients suitable for Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy and to ensure compliance with national standards. Effectiveness of the role will be monitored via the Scottish Stroke Care Audit standards and via the embedded annual review of stroke care in the board.

In this key role, you will:

Contribute and act as a skilled advisor and resource as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing a coordinated approach to service delivery

Have the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability for their actions. This is characterised by a level of decision making based on the detailed knowledge and understanding of the area of practice

Within the sphere of their clinical specialist role in the specialty, has the autonomy to admit, refer and discharge patients with the potential to allocate and / or delegate clinical activity and interventions as required

Be accountable for standards of care and deliver these within the context of clinical governance to ensure the highest standards of practice, ensuring that this is evidence based.

What You'll Bring:

Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC / HCPC Registration

Educated to Degree Level

Post graduate qualification at a minimum of Level 10 (Hons) or working towards

Expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.

Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.

Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice

Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
