Job overview

0-19 Community Nursery Nurse Band 4

Are you passionate about helping children and families thrive?

Do you love the idea of making a real difference in your community, every single day? If so, keep reading - this might be the perfect next step in your career!

We’re on the lookout for a warm, motivated Nursery Nurse to join our brand new 0–19 Public Health Nursing Team. You’ll be working under the guidance of experienced School Nurses (SCPHNs) and Registered Nurses, supporting the health and development of school-aged children across the borough of Croydon.

You don’t need to be a qualified nurse, but you do need to have a genuine interest in child health, early intervention, and supporting families from all backgrounds to give their children the best start in life.

Main duties of the job

So, what’s the role all about?

You’ll be working right at the heart of our community - in schools, homes, family hubs, youth centres, health clinics and more. You’ll be:

  • Supporting health promotion activities - whether it’s one-on-one, in small groups, or in front of a whole school assembly!
  • Helping to deliver parts of the Healthy Child Programme, including the National Child Measurement Programme and vision screening.
  • Offering friendly, practical advice to children and families on everything from healthy eating and oral health to emotional wellbeing and continence (don’t worry - we’ll give you the training and support you need!).
  • Spotting concerns early and linking families in with the right services so that children get the support they need, when they need it.
  • Being a trusted face and consistent support for families, helping them feel heard and empowered.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll be perfect for this role if you:

  • Have experience working with children (in schools, nurseries, or community settings).
  • Hold a Level 3 childcare qualification (e.g. CACHE, BTEC, NVQ).
  • Are confident speaking with children, young people and parents—and able to build trusting relationships.
  • Love the idea of working flexibly across a range of settings.
  • Are passionate about early intervention and helping families feel supported, not judged.
  • Are organised, proactive, and a real team player
