Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality care delivery of all patients in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards. A Medical Day Case Unit provides planned treatments and procedures that avoid overnight hospital stays. It manages patients needing regular care such as ascitic drain infusions for liver disease (draining fluid and giving albumin), high-volume IBD treatments like biologic infusions, IV steroids, or iron, and venesection clinics for conditions like haemochromatosis or polycythaemia vera (removing blood to control iron levels or red cell count). This helps deliver safe, specialist-led care, reduces hospital admissions, and supports patients with chronic conditions efficiently in an outpatient setting.
Main duties of the job
- In conjunction with the Divisional Nurse Director and Matron (NS) provide effective leadership, monitoring of professional and care standards, and effective use of resources at ward/department level.
- To be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives, and staff.
- To be responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate, safe and high-quality patient care.
- Lead by example and act as a positive role model to staff taking responsibility for own professional development.
- Provide leadership that promotes patient focused care.
- Actively contribute to and support agreed developments within the business group with focus for supporting clinical effectiveness and innovative practice.
- To manage roster allocation for present and future shifts to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model.
- To lead the multidisciplinary team daily using resources effectively and efficiently.
- To confidently escalate in a timely manner concerns about patient safety, quality and experience, offering solutions and evidence-based recommendations.

Participate in the Divisional professional on site cover rota as required dealing with professional issues, redeployment of staff and giving advice and support, and liaising with the To maintain full responsibility for the effective management of care of patients, demonstrating daily assessment of self/time management to organise and prioritise workload.
- To provide assurance that individualised plans of care are formulated and implemented for all patients including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ensure that patient and carer contributions are encouraged and acknowledged.
- Ensure Safeguarding policies for Children and Adults at risk are adhered to by Staff.
- To ensure changes in a patients’ condition are identified and appropriately responded to, recognising when intervention of others is required and referred to as appropriate.
- To act as an advocate for the patient and their family, including promoting and protecting their interests, rights, equality, inclusion, and privacy.
- To participate in the investigation and management of incidents / complaints as required.
- To establish and maintain effective communication, both verbal and written, and relationships with multi-disciplinary teams.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
