Job overview

Are you organised, approachable, and proactive? Do you have strong administrative skills and enjoy supporting a busy team? If so, you may be the ideal candidate for this rewarding role.

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Ward Clerk to join our Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) — a 31‑bedded ward with a 4‑bedded hyperacute bay that receives patients from the Emergency Department and neighbouring hospitals.

As a Ward Clerk, you will play a key part in keeping the ward running smoothly. You’ll help maintain accurate patient records, support the flow of information, and be a vital point of contact for patients, relatives, and colleagues. You’ll work closely with a wide multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, therapists, and fellow administrative staff, so excellent communication and customer‑service skills are essential.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a warm, professional manner, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. In return, we offer a comprehensive training programme and clear opportunities for development.

Main duties of the job

This will include: • Welcome patients and relatives warmly, provide clear information, and guide them around the environment and available facilities. • Answer telephone enquiries politely, take accurate messages, and follow up appropriately. • Liaise with nurses, doctors, GPs, and other team members to share accurate information. • Maintain up‑to‑date patient records, appointments, and inpatient details to support timely care.
