A great opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and dynamic nurse to join the Ipswich Urology Team at East Suffolk and North East Essex Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an experienced nurse who has knowledge and experience in cancer/Urology nursing. You must have the passion and drive to provide high quality patient centred care.

You will be supporting the Uro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists to deliver a high quality specialist nursing service to our patients with suspected urology cancer or confirmed cancer diagnosis. The role will provide a high standard of care, including supporting patients and families with bad news, providing information on treatment options, able to advocate for the patient and family, and support symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment. Experience of looking after urological patients would be beneficial in this role.

You will work closely with a variety of health care professionals and the management team, you will be a valued member of the team.

This is a challenging and demanding role and requires a proactive, self-motivated, dedicated person who is capable of understanding complex care pathways across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service delivery for our patients.

You will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your own work load and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work in a self-directed manner.

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting patients with a urology cancer (Bladder, Renal, Prostate, Testis or Penile). The post holder will provide expert care, advice and support to both patients and their families undergoing treatment or surveillance on an in-patient, out-patient and community basis and will act as a resource for other staff.
  • To comply with clinical governance guidelines the post holder will identify gaps in current service provision and streamline patients’ pathways through a structured programme of consultation with Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team including relevant user groups
  • Ensure effective collaborative working alongside members of the Multidisciplinary team including Oncology and Palliative care teams
  • Be aware and up to date with current methods of treatment and current research, new clinical practices, procedures and facilitate care at a clinical level
  • To provide education, advice and support for the health care team, to facilitate continuity of care throughout the patients' journey.
