An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced administrator to join the Medical Education team based at Carleton Clinic, Carlisle. This key role will have responsibility for the provision of high-level and efficient administrative support for undergraduate medical students.

The successful applicant will have excellent customer service experience, excellent organisational and communication skills, experience of taking responsibility for managing own workload and meeting deadlines, ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, think critically and have excellent planning skills.  A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new IT skills as required.

The applicant will also possess the ability to work as a part of a team, as well as independently and be able to establish good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. An understanding of Medical Education would be beneficial but is not essential.

The postholder is expected to be office based. With agreement, there will be some flexibility with arrangements after 1 year and upon demonstration that work is being carried out to the required standard.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will oversee and coordinate the induction and training of undergraduate medical students based in North Cumbria during their mental health rotations, including:

  • Work closely with the Base Leads, Teaching Fellows, University staff and Consultant teachers to plan and deliver Stage 3, 4 and 5 rotations. •    Provide high level administrative support and coordination for the delivery of the undergraduate teaching in the Cumbria LEPs. •    Plan and organise complex timetables and ensure timetables and resources are accurately uploaded onto the University platforms in timely manner. •    Liaise with the clinical teams to ensure clinical attachments are planned effectively and communicated to students and teachers in a timely manner. •    Collate undergraduate feedback and work with Base Leads to look for trends to inform developments in the design and delivery of teaching. •    Regularly attend the Psychiatry Implementation & Innovation Group (PIIG) and the Undergraduate meetings for Cumbria as well as annual University ADQM

We plan & deliver clinical rotations and placements, a wide range & level of psychiatric teaching including simulated sessions, mock exams, in depth inductions, conferences, work experience and IT training.  We successfully run three Medical Education Centres across the Northeast and Cumbria and are a lead trainer in Psychiatric Simulation.

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of mental health, learning disability and neurological care services across the north of England.

This post will work within the Medical Education Team. This team works closely with Universities and NHS England (NHSE) to oversee the high-quality education and training of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainee doctors.
