We are happy to announce that an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and responsive Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional with post registration training in safeguarding children with experience in safeguarding children and young people to join the Safeguarding Team at University Hospitals Northamptonshire NHS Group.
The postholder will have excellent communication and organisational skills. The ability to demonstrate dynamic innovative behaviours and strong leadership to ensure that safeguarding continues to develop in the Group.
Experience of safeguarding within a healthcare setting is essential together with an ability to influence and develop practice and policy in this area.
An understanding and ability to deliver appropriate assurance to high level groups regarding compliance against statutory requirements is needed.
The postholder will have responsibility to develop and deliver training to a wide range of staff and will need to have a clear understanding and working knowledge of legislation and it’s application in order to deliver this.
A degree of flexibility is required within this role to support the wider Safeguarding agenda and work in close collaboration with other named professionals to ensure a cohesive safeguarding service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the development and maintenance of safe practice within all areas of urgent care in relation to all elements of safeguarding and mental health. This will include:
- Operational day to day management of the Safeguarding Service across UHN
- Deliver professional leadership for all staff groups in all the trust
- Development and delivery of training to all staff groups.
- Ensure that the are robust governance processes to support the assurance processes
- Real time teaching.
- Staff support during challenging situations – utilisation of expert knowledge.
- Directorate audits and action planning.
- Oversight of patients who frequently care services, ensuring robust management plans are in place.
- Developing systems and processes which will ensure the delivery of safe care for adult and paediatric patients
- Liaison with external partners to facilitate best practice and management
- Support the Violent patient Marker Panel process
- Support the High Intensity User Services
- A degree of flexibility is required within this role to support the wider Safeguarding agenda and work in close collaboration with other named professionals to ensure a cohesive safeguarding service.
The expectation is that the post holder will participate in and undertake audits as required and provide data and information as requested by the organisation to promote a quality service and support research and evidence based practice.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The post holder will work as part of the UHN Safeguarding Team comprising of the Associate Director of Nursing Safeguarding, Named Nurses/Professionals, Safeguarding Practitioners, MH Lead, MCA/DOLS/LPS Lead, Dementia Lead and LD/Autism Lead and administrative support. They will support the development and delivery of high-quality safeguarding practice across the range of services provided by UHN.
- They will take overall operational day to day management of the Safeguarding service at either the NGH or KGH sites, supported by the Named Nurse/Professional Adults and the Associate Director of Nursing Safeguarding. They will provide cross cover for annual leave and ensure responsive service provision to front line clinical colleagues.
- To deliver visible professional leadership for all staff groups in the trust, on all aspects of safeguarding children and develop professional practice across the Trust ensuring the provision of effective, safe and evidence-based care.
- To manage and take daily responsibility for care quality performance and safeguarding activity by providing professional nursing leadership and guidance, safeguarding advice and management to ensure compliance with Working together to Safeguard Children (2018), Children Act 1989 and 2004, Care Act 2014, MCA 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2009, and local safeguarding board procedures.
- The post holder will have professional and managerial accountability, which includes management of staff, budgets, quality and standards of practice of all members of the team by enhancing systems such as clinical supervision, personal development and competency planning and monitoring, clinical audit, policy and compliance checks.
- To ensure the delivery of an effective safeguarding service which meets the needs of individuals, families and communities in line with local and national development plans, Trust policies and procedures.
- The post holder will provide effective leadership and management, to develop and sustain a positive working culture.
- The post holder will ensure staff are trained appropriately to deliver the safeguarding service required and ensure supervision and mentorship is in place.
- The post holder is influential within the organisation and provides detailed advice to others internally and externally to the organisation, within their sphere of responsibility and competence.
- To work collaboratively with other senior professionals across UHN as appropriate and promote the safeguarding agenda to all stakeholders.
- To foster a culture of networking in an open and transparent approach with internal and external MDT’s and between all stakeholders.
- The post holder will undertake, and support others to complete, Individual Management Reviews and participate in safeguarding reviews (SCR, SAR, DHR) in line with local safeguarding board procedures.
