Job overview

An exciting opportunity for 3 Trust Grade Registrars to join our friendly and supportive Obstetric and Gynaecology department at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. We are a busy district hospital, working in collaboration with Kettering General Hospital to cater for a diverse population.

The medical team consist of 10 Obstetric Consultants & 9 Gynaecology Consultants, 17 St3+ Registrars & 13 Senior House Officers with a mix of Specialty trainees, GP Trainees & Foundation doctors.

You will be a Trust Grade Specialist Registrar, Level ST3-7 who is enthusiastic to develop their interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and be able to complete the relevant ATSM. You will be encouraged & supported to register for your RCOG ePortfolio.

Working under Consultant supervision you will work across the labour & post natal ward, maternity day unit, gynaecology ward, outpatient department & theatres. You will have exposure to diverse medical conditions, providing high quality treatment and care to patients.

Hours: Full time, circa 45 hours per week (rota dependant as some weeks you may work more or less hours as per job description)

Main duties of the job

Your duties will be based at Northampton General Hospital (NGH).  You are required to have an extensive working knowledge of the management of obstetric & gynaecological medical issues and emergencies.

Our team are flexible in approach and willing to make adaptions to suit the challenges presenting within an ever changing environment. The ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team is essential.

You will work alongside a dynamic team supporting the junior rota covering a variety of duties will cover all areas of the department including:

Labour ward, gynaecology theatres, caesarean section lists, inpatient ward rounds and emergency procedures & on-calls. You will have the opportunity to attend obstetric and gynaecology clinics for training purposes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Registrar Rota

You will participate in the 1:9 rota. Rota frequency and work pattern out of hours is reviewed on a regular basis. Changes may be necessary in future to adapt to changes in the department.

Teaching & Research

You will have access to teaching on Wed & Fri afternoons.

participate in teaching programmes directed at clinical students training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. This is an integral for every-day clinical activity. You will access teaching at HEEM on Wednesday or Friday afternoons.

You will be involved with the monthly morbidity & mortality teaching across obstetric & Gynaecology.

The postgraduate medical centre has a well-stocked library, a computer terminal for Medline searches and CD databases.  The computer terminals are also available within the Department.

Clinical Governance

You will be involved with a range of clinical governance activities including:-

Clinical audit including completion of an audit cycle, is seen as a mandatory activity for all junior doctors, associate specialist & Consultants.

Morbidity and mortality reviews and meetings

Clinical effectiveness

Risk management

Quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. You will participate in the Audit & Quality & Improvement project.
