Surgical Senior Clinical Fellow
Applications are invited for the post of General Surgery SHO based at Newham University Hospital.
The post holder will have a 12 month post (extendable) in the General Surgery department which will include supporting the Foundation School trainees and the opportunity to train in General Surgery. In addition she/he will be involved in Out Patient Clinics and in-patient operating lists. The post includes a 1:8 on-call commitment. He/she will be expected to be involved in several research projects and actively participate in teaching and audit.
Newham University Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust. It is an associate teaching hospital and is dedicated to teaching and training.
Post-holders will be working as a Trust Grade SHO and be part of a team of 8 at the middle grade level within the General Surgery department. You will be rotating and working within the department in Breast/Endocrine surgery, Gastro-intestinal/minimally invasive surgery and Colorectal surgery. Although this post is not a recognized training post, you will have a wide opportunity to develop your surgical skills and you will be expected to have a strong academic commitment and to be part of the ongoing academic and audit activities of the department.

Standard working week, the number of hours additional duty you are required to
undertake and the area in which you are required to undertake it, in the light of the
requirements of the service. Barts Health NHS Trust will endeavour to give
as much advance notice as possible of such change. In the event of a change in the
number of additional duty hours you are required to undertake your pay will be
adjusted appropriately.
You may be required to provide on-call cover and take for patients throughout Barts
Health NHS Trust, including cross district, inter-directorate, and Barts Health NHS
Trust reserves the right to change cover requirements in accordance
with the needs of the service.
