Job overview

A full-time post as F2 in Cardiothoracic Surgery is available at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, based primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The post would be suitable for an experienced F2 or core surgical trainee equivalent, especially if seeking a career in cardiothoracic surgery and looking to acquire further clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery and/or complete the MRCS exam. The unit provides a service covering all aspects of adult cardiothoracic surgery (on- and off-pump CABG, aortic and mitral valve surgery, aortic aneurysm surgery, complex lung resections, full VATS service, chest wall reconstruction and endo-bronchial treatments) excluding transplantation and oesophageal surgery. The department encourages participation in clinical research, audit and teaching. This post is not approved for training and does not carry an NTN.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will participate in the service’s inpatient and outpatient activities. This will involve sharing the rota with the other doctors.  The consultant staff will give in-service training and formal training; training agreements will be made at the beginning of the appointment and progress checked every 6 months.

The post-holder will participate in the cardiothoracic F2 (SHO) rota (1:7 non-resident), dealing with the cardiothoracic ward or covering the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit on a full shift rota.
