Exciting opportunities are now available to join the new Adult Critical Care Transfer team (ACCTS) in Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS). This new service, known as the ARCC KSS, will strive to provide a high standard of critical care medicine to adult patients requiring inter-hospital transfers across the region and into London for reasons such as escalation of care, repatriation, capacity and continuation of care. We are now recruiting highly skilled and compassionate Transfer Practitioners (TPs) to join our team. We would like to hear from you if you are passionate about critical care and ensuring the safe and effective transfer of critically unwell adults.

Main duties of the job

TPs may come from a critical care nursing, ODP, ACCP or paramedic background, please see the job description for further details. As part of the clinical team you will be expected to complete the transfer of critically unwell adult patients with a Critical Care consultant. Each member of the team will be expected to contribute to the safe and effective running of the service, have excellent communication skills and contribute actively to the governance of the service. The Critical Care Transfer Practitioner role is a challenging and rewarding career choice. Each transfer is unique with critically ill patients presenting with a large range of conditions and needs with new challenges on every transfer. TPs at ARCC KSS can be supported to work towards local and national qualifications supporting their career development.

Transfer Practitioners can choose to be based at either or both of our hubs in Crawley, West Sussex or Maidstone, Kent. The shifts are 12-hour day shifts from 0900-2100.

This role is offered on a part time basis for a fixed term of one year or as a Bank posistion.  Please state your preferance on your application. The part time nature of the role will ensure continued working in your usual clinical setting. Hours can be discussed on a person to person basis.

  • Working closely with the ARC KSS Critical Care Transfer Consultant in planning and executing the safe and efficient inter-hospital transfer of critically ill adults.
  • Co-ordinated activity in line with current ICM standards, Transfer Practitioner standards and RSFT clinical and operational operating procedures.
  • Input of transfer and patient data to a clinical database.
  • Post transfer evaluation reporting and feedback to referring hospital.
  • Critical Incident (DATIX) reporting.
  • General care and cleaning of medical equipment, monitoring and personal protective equipment used in clinical operations.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly checks of equipment, drugs and monitoring in accordance with agreed team checklists and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintenance of accurate stock record in terms of consumables and drugs. Stock ordering.
  • Controlled drug documentation in line with Service controlled drugs procedures.
  • Familiarisation and understanding of clinical and operational briefs as they are produced
