Job overview

We have two exciting opportunities in our Suffolk Young Adult Mental Health Service (YAMHS) for trainee psychological therapists to undertake CBT training. One post is in the East YAMHS team (Ipswich base) and the other in the West YAMHS team (Bury St. Edmunds base).

Our service provides highly specialist mental health treatment for young adults aged 18-25. We are seeking experienced clinicians with an existing core profession (in nursing/social work/OT) who are passionate and motivated to work in a developmentally-appropriate service alongside an existing strong and dedicated clinical psychology and psychological therapies workforce within our core teams.

These are full-time band 6 training posts, funded by HEE for 2 years at the training grade before transitioning onto a Band 7 CBT therapist role upon successful completion of the post-graduate diploma and accreditation process. The training will include broad CBT training in the first year with a specialist focus on CBT for PD in the second year of training.

If you have the drive to provide excellent care, can demonstrate high quality core clinical skills and a desire to develop and learn,  and are willing to go the extra mile to help make a difference to young people's lives then we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

These are training roles within the Suffolk Young Adult Mental Health Service, and it involves participating in and attending the HEE funded 2-year Post Graduate Diploma in CBT-PD at the UCL (some in-person and some remote teaching) alongside working within the core service under supervision.

In Year 1, the post holder will work to provide formal psychological intervention (CBT) whilst undertaking a programme of core CBT training with UCL. This intensive training post will equip the post-holder to provide CBT to young people with a range of complex presentations for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. In the second year of training, there will be a specialist focus on CBT for Personality Disorder allowing the post-holder to develop expertise in working with young people whose primary needs fall into our Complex Emotional Needs pathway. The post-holder will work in the service for 4 days of the week using newly developed skills and contributing to broader clinical tasks of the team, whilst attending the training programme the other day.

You will need to have an interest in and aptitude for academic study and work, and the ability to balance academic assignments alongside clinical work within your post.
